The biggest Blood Donor Week event “We have one bloodstream” took place in the square in front of Origo Shopping Centre

To promote the blood donation movement and encourage people to get involved, the “We have one bloodstream” event dedicated to the World Blood Donor Day was held in the square in front of Origo Shopping Centre. It has already been organised for several years in a row by the State Blood Donor Centre (SBDC) together with its partners. More than 120 lives will be saved thanks to the blood donated at the event.

“In implementing Linstow Baltic’s corporate social responsibility strategy, initiatives based on the core values of sustainable development, one of which is health promotion, are included in our daily activities. This year, continuing the long-standing cooperation with the State Blood Donor Centre, the annual blood donation event took place in the square in front of Origo Shopping Centre. As one of the most visited shopping centres in the heart of Riga, Origo is reaching out to more and more residents and visitors, encouraging them to act responsibly. It is a great pleasure that this initiative is appreciated every year by both tenants and visitors of Origo and they actively participate in the blood donation movement, thus supporting their fellow citizens and saving lives,” says Evija Majevska, Commercial Director of Linstow Baltic and Origo Multifunctional Centre.

The World Blood Donor Day is traditionally celebrated worldwide on 14 June to highlight the importance of this movement in saving lives. During the event, everyone had the opportunity to find out their blood type, check their haemoglobin level and donate blood in the SBDC mobile bus.

“The World Blood Donor Day event has been taking place at the Origo Shopping Centre for several years. This day has become an important event that attracts many people and promotes the blood donation movement in Latvia. The event was organised to thank those who selflessly donate blood to save lives and to promote the blood donation movement by informing the public about the importance and benefits of blood donation. This year, despite the rainy weather, the event attracted a significant number of donors. 58 people wanted to donate blood, 41 of whom did,” says Egita Pole, Director of the SBDC.

The feeling of celebration was created by the DJs Maija Rozīte and Oskars Lepers from the pop-up studio of radio Star FM, who encouraged visitors to participate in various activities and invited well-known personalities (including active blood donors) – musicians Dons, Patrisha and Chris Noa, as well as athletes – basketball player Dairis Bertāns and volleyball players Anastasija Samoilova and Tīna Graudiņa.

All donors who donated blood in the SBDC mobile bus at Origo on this day received special thank-you surprises from Origo tenants LIDO, Laima and Narvesen.

🙏 S/c Origo and SBDC honours all donors and is grateful to everyone who donates blood to help save the lives of others. By donating blood once, each donor helps save the lives of three seriously ill patients.
