The exhibition space RTU and Origo Future Stop showcases works by the young designers of Riga Technical University
11.November, 2024
Interior objects, games, furniture, various accessories and other design objects, as well as clothing collections can be seen at the exhibition of works created by the students of the bachelor programme “Materials Technology and Design” of the Architecture and Design Institute (ADI) of Riga Technical University (RTU), which opened on 1 November in the innovation and scientific achievements exhibition space RTU and Origo Future Stop.
The exhibition also features works by the winners of the Design Arena 2024 competition organised by the Latvian Designers’ Society. It is the only nation-wide design competition for students, and the winners include several RTU students.
The first place went to RTU ADI graduate Zanda Seņkova in the category “Design of Things” for a modular collection of seating furniture. Olga Čerņavska, also a graduate of RTU ADI, received recognition even in two categories – “Design Research” and “Communication Design” – for her specially researched and designed chemistry board game “Chemical Elements” for grades 8 to 12. In the category “Design of Things” RTU ADI graduate Oskars Ralfs Vanags won the third prize by designing “FikaStandart” coffee table, which is equipped with a rotating drawer section and organisers inside. The exhibition will also have many other design objects and costume collections.
“During their studies, future designers learn about the product development process, from the birth of an idea to the promotion of the finished product. The student implements his or her idea – first in a sketch and then also in material. We will see the result in the exhibition. These are carefully thought-out, practical and sustainable design solutions,” says Māra Liepa-Zemeša, Director of RTU ADI.
“It has already become a tradition that at Origo Shopping Centre we offer visitors to get acquainted with the works of RTU’s young specialists, which combine creative design and modern technologies. For the convenience of visitors, Origo has also introduced modern innovation solutions in interior design, promoting environmental accessibility and improving energy efficiency with the aim of giving visitors a pleasant shopping experience,” says Viktorija Bižāne, Marketing Manager of Origo Shopping Centre.
The exhibition can be viewed free of charge at the innovation and scientific achievements exhibition space RTU and Origo Future Stop until February 2025 on weekdays from 09:00 to 21:00 and on weekends from 10:00 to 19:00.
The innovation and scientific achievements exhibition space RTU and Origo Future Stop is located on the second floor of the new building of Origo Shopping Centre at Stacijas laukums 4. It was created in cooperation between the two parties with the aim of introducing the general public to the latest technological solutions, scientific discoveries, and achievements of RTU students, engineers and scientists.
